Morning! Sorry there was no post last night. I was in bed at 8:30pm with an awful tummy ache! One great thing about having a blog like this (other than all of you amazing readers and making fantastic bloggy friends
) is that I have the ability to go back and see what I have been eating. Lately, I have been feeling worn down and I have been getting tummy aches and head aches. So, I checked out what I have been eating lately. I am sure you noticed I have been eating some things that you usually don’t see on my blog like things made of white flour, red meat, fried food, and pork. I gave up these things about a year ago because I hated how they made me feel. Well, since I hadn’t eaten them in a while, I forgot how bad they made me feel and had a little bit here and there. The result: feeling run down, sick and in pain. So, I have decided it is time to tighten the reins a little bit. I need to remember that having food that makes me feel yucky, is just not worth having. Am I upset with myself? Nope! It is not the end of the world, I just need to eat what makes me feel good and not eat what doesn’t…end of story!
So, let me back up to last night. After work, I headed to a local elderly apartment complex to volunteer for a few hours. I have been going every year since as far back as I can remember to help out with their holiday party.
There is always entertainment:
Plenty to Drink:
and a whole lot of socializing!
That’s my Pa in the red shirt telling someone a joke, he comes along each year to catch up with old friends
In past years the meal has been turkey with all the fixin’s. I love that because I am usually able to go for the healthier options (turkey- no skin, steamed veggies ect.) But this year, it was pasta. I was less than thrilled, since there were really no healthy options.
Salad, pasta, meatball and chicken broccoli and ziti. I also had a little bit of an ice cream roll.
And, as a result, got a huge tummy ache= I had to skip Body Pump! Ugh! Too much rich food! Since I am someone who never really eats rich food, my body was pretty upset with me, and she let me know it! So like I said above, I looked back and realized what the issue is, and we called a truce.

Dear Body:
I am sorry for treating you not so well. Thank you for letting me know that I have been giving you things that you are not a fan of. I promise to listen to you again from now on.
Lots of love,
Ali
PS you are awesome!!!!

Ok, I am done being a freakin’ dork! So after the party, I ended up sitting on the couch watching tv, while whining and headed to bed early.
I got this morning at 6:30 to meet Julia for a run!! About 1/2 way through our run, as we were running over the Mass Ave Bridge, we saw a guy on a road bike completely wipe out. For a few second we just stopped. He wasn’t getting up. So, we ran over and helped him up along with another runner. I think he may have hurt his ankle and right arm. THANK GOD, he had on a helmet! For those of you who bike, WEAR YOUR HELMET, PEOPLE! I realized that I never stopped my Garmin during this whole ordeal, so my stats will be off.
But, according to Garmin: We ran 4.9 miles in 45:42
Splits:
Mile 1: 8:45
Mile 2: 9:19
Mile 3: 9:23
Mile 4: 9:25
Mile 5: 8:44
When I got back to my apt, I did some magic, and quickly turned this:
into this:
Green Monster:
- 1/2 of a banana
- spinach
- fat free organic milk

Happy Birthday to Food,Fitness, Fashion Mom!!!!!
That’s right, today is my mom’s Birthday!!!! My mom is my favorite lady on the planet. She is sweet, supportive and really funny!
(Mom, my brother, myself).
My mom is one of my best friends, we can and will talk about anything! I am lucky enough to love so close my to my family, that I get to see my mom pretty much every day.
We have a lot in common and I love hanging out with her. She is also, a fantastic Nana to Oscar and spoils her little grandpup rotten!!!! I know that no matter what happens, my mom always has my back.
She is really supportive and was one of the key people who encouraged me to start this little blog!!!
A few interesting facts about my mom:
- My mom graduated from college in 3 years! (Yup, she is that smart, people).
- She is the older of two children and had a huge hand in raising my aunt, since my grandparents had to work a lot to make ends meet.
- She originally met my dad in first grade and thought he was a total jerk!
- She has been with my dad since they were 16 years old, which makes 40 years together. (oops- did I just give away her age? Sorry, mom!)
- She is very well traveled.
- She has an AMAZING sense of direction. Something I did not inherit from her, hence my gigantic collection of Garmin products.
- She is allergic to Red Wine! Poor thing!
- Her favorite color is purple!
- She is obsessed with hound dogs and her big dream would be to own a farm where she could raise a million of them (something I did inherit from her).
- She has really great legs, honestly, it’s true! (something I also inherited from her
)
Happy Birthday, Momma!!!!! I love you so much!!!
