Packing Sucess!

By Ali

Morning!!! I hope you guys are all doing well! Let me being by saying, the packing was not as stressful as it could have been last night! I got all packed in about 20 minutes!!!!

Here are some things that I tried out last night to help streamline the packing process and reduce stress:

  1. Stick to one color scheme so you don’t need to bring so many shoes, purses or coats (which is usually a HUGE problem for me) . For this trip I stuck with black. So, that means, my black trench coat, a few pair of shoes (1 pair of boots , 1 pair of pumps, 1 ok 2…so what pair of flats, running shoes)  1 black purse.
  2. Limit the number of clothes to bring to sleep in. After all, all you are doing is sleeping in them, right?!
  3. Wear you larger items in travel so that you don’t have to jam them in your suitcase like jackets or boots that take up a lot of room!

What are your packing tips?

So what did I pack?

  • 3 pairs of jeans (two skinny, one flare)
  • 2 pair of flats (one black, one leopard)
  • 1 pair of black suede pumps
  • workout clothes (running tights, fleece, shorts, t’s, sports bras, socks, running shoes)
  • Black cardigan – goes well with everything in my suitcase
  • 4 tops (all that go well with black and with different patterns – plaid, stripped and solid)
  • 1 dress
  • 1 blue  leather skirt (simply because it is amazing and I love it!)
  • hair dryer (the hotel ones blow- pun intended)
  • limited amount of makeup (basics)
  • toiletries
  • 1 pair of PJ’s
  • Amazing Meal Shaker,Nutritional Bars, Green Superfood (c’mon, I can’t live without this stuff for a weekend!!!)

My laptop/ electronic bag that contains:

  • my laptop and changer
  • camera battery charger and camera wires
  • ipod
  • garmin with charger and HRM strap

Who knew a girl needed so many electronics for a few days away??? And yes I will be blogging from NYC!

Dinner last night was made by this handsome chef!

Adam made turkey burgers using Trader Joe’s ground turkey and these two little guys:

Whole Wheat breadcrumbs and egg whites. He prepped the patties and then grilled them on the Forman.

Dinner:

I put my burger on a whole wheat Arnold’s sandwich thin with a thin slice of American cheese, pickles, and organic ketchup and mustard! YUMMM! What do you like on your burgers? We has some sweet potato fried on the side!!

For my beverage I has some POM juice and seltzer water. The lovely people a POM sent me some juice to try out.  Since I am not a huge juice person, I prefer it mixed with some seltzer.

Here is some info about the amazing health benefits of POM juice:

Fights Breast Cancer
Studies in Israel show that pomegranate juice destroys breast cancer cells while leaving healthy cells alone. It may also prevent breast cancer cells from forming.

Lung Cancer Prevention
Studies in mice show that pomegranate juice may inhibit the development of lung cancer.

Slows Prostate Cancer
It slowed the growth of prostate cancer in mice.

Keeps PSA Levels Stable
In a study of 50 men who had undergone treatment for prostate cancer, 8 ounces of pomegranate juice per day kept PSA levels stable, reducing the need for further treatment such as chemotherapy or hormone therapy.

Protects the Neonatal Brain
Studies show that maternal consumption of pomegranate juice may protect the neonatal brain from damage after injury.

Prevention of Osteoarthritis
Several studies indicate that pomegranate juice may prevent cartilage deterioration.

Protects the Arteries
It prevents plaque from building up in the arteries and may reverse previous plaque buildup.

Alzheimer’s Disease Prevention
It may prevent and slow Alzheimer’s disease. In one study, mice bred to develop Alzheimer’s disease were given pomegranate juice. They accumulated significantly less amyloid plaque than control mice and they performed mental tasks better.

Lowers Cholesterol
It lowers LDL (bad cholesterol) and raises HDL (good cholesterol).

Lowers Blood Pressure
One study showed that drinking 1.7 ounces of pomegranate juice per day lowered systolic blood pressure by as much as 5 percent.

Dental Protection
Research suggests that drinking pomegranate juice may be a natural way to prevent dental plaque.

Pom Juice is loaded with antioxidants (which neutralize free radicals). Above is a comparison of the amount of antioxidants in POM as compared to other beverages. Combine these health benefits with a great taste and you have an award-winning beverage in my opinion!!! GO POM!!!!

Dessert was two Dark Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Cookies:

This morning the alarm went off at 5am for me to get on the train and head to Body Pump. I was less than thrilled to hear the alarm go off, I literally screamed, “NO!”. My mind and body were TOO TIRED!!!! So, I weighed the options and realized a few things:

  1. I will not be seeing Adam or Oscar for a few days and spending another hour cuddled up with them in bed would be AMAZING.
  2. I have worked out the last 8 DAYS IN A ROW! Sheesh…no wonder my body was begging for a rest.
  3. If I go to the gym I will have to lug all the extra crap (i.e. dirty workout clothes, and gym bag) to the Big Apple with me as I am leaving straight from work.

Can you guess what decision I made? Yup, I hopped right back into bed and snuggled up with my two favorite guys for another hour…totally worth it :)

Breakfast this morning was a yummy bowl of raspberries, blueberries, granola and vanilla Oikos…tasty!!!

with coffee.

Today’s Outfit:

Black cowl neck dress (H&M), Black Rose Belt (Urban Outfitters), Black Tights (Target), Gray Boots (Target).

Here is my attempt at getting a picture of the belt so you can see it.

Can you see it?! I don’t know, it hard to photograph black on black…sorry!

I am also wearing this adorable heart necklace a got a few years ago. Love it for a little splash of bring color!
