Hey everyone, good afternoon! I hope you guys have had a great day. Around 12pm, I had a giant salad.

It had: spring mix, carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, red peppers, reduced fat feta, black beans, frozen corn, lemon hummus, salsa, and vinegar.
I have gotten a few emails about adding frozen veggies to my salads. I do this a lot. If I put the frozen veggies in the salad at night before bed or in the morning and put the salad in the fridge until it is time to eat it, the veggies are thawed by the time I eat the salad. It works out great!!!! I do it a lot with corn and edamame. It is a great way of adding more veggie power and variety to your salads.
If you follow me on Twitter you will have noticed I started complaining about a headache around 10am. It steadily got worse, I thought maybe my blood sugar was low, so I had some trail mix.:

Around 2:00pm it was a full blown MIGRAINE!!!! Ugh! I had to leave work and come home. Just an FYI, the last place you want to be with a migraine is the T. It was brutal!!! When I got home, I got into sweats and laid in bed with the covers over my head and the lights off. Of course, I had company.

Those of you that have pets, don’t you feel like when something isn’t right with you, they know. I feel like Oscar knew I wasn’t feeling well, he curled right up against me and it helped to fall asleep fast!
When I woke up, two hours later, my migraine was gone. Needless to say, I am not going to class tonight (since class is going on right now). I really hate missing class, but when you get a migraine I feel like everything stops. I find the only thing that works for me is sleep. Do any of you guys get migraines? What do you do to help them go away or to get rid of some of the pain? Does anything trigger them?
When I woke up, I was hungry so I snacked on some Annie’s Cheddar Bunnies…yum yum!

Well, I am off to relax, I have tomorrow off of work for Veteran’s Day! Sweet! I think I will bake some goodies for my Papa, my favorite veteran! Do you have any veterans in your family? Are you going to do something nice, or spend time with them tomorrow?

Migraines are the worst! I usually take a hot shower in the dark and drink some water or tea and then go to bed until I feel better.
I plan to go to a Veterans Day ceremony tomorrow with my Dad who is a veteran. He was in the Coast Guard for over 25 years and I am so proud of his service!
I totally believe that our pets know when something is not right with us. Its like they have an aura. I have 2 cats a boy and a girl. My girl cat (priscila) doesnt really come to me or sit on me or anything…she really only goes and cuddles with Dan. But I’ve noticed that every now and then she will come and cuddle with me and lay on me and coincidently I fall ill the next day! I call her my little predictor so its always bad news when prisci comes to me!
i find there is nothing that helps me with a migraine. i cry, i lay down, i clean. Its the worst!! So now i try to avoid stress, and I have actually become surprisingly good at it! And I quit caffeine a couple years ago. I used to have them daily and now they’ve been pretty rare (knock on wood)
I have tomorrow off!! and i am spending the first half of my day at your dentist! thanks for the referral!
Glad that you’re feeling better!
I love the frozen veggie tip- I use frozen berries in my oatmeal sometimes, but I never thought to use in frozen veggies in my lunch!
Naps can solve any problem!
Haha, no but seriously, glad that you’re feeling better. Our pets do have some extra sense and they know when we need them.
I used to get migraines when I was in my early 20′s, but stopped getting them after college. I think I was just stressed out too much.
It’s nice to have a pet to cheer you up. Hope you’re feeling 100% by the morning
I am the migraine queen!!! Sad but true! Here are some tips; straight from my doctor and they are true and will work!
Triggers: wine, cheese, turkey, artificial sweetner, caffeine, chocolate, stress
Interesting but true facts: When you have a headache, NEVER have chocolate or caffeine, but when you have a migraine, they help! My doc advises me to take 3 advil the second I get an inkling that one is coming on. Then drink Coca Cola. Has to be name brand Coke, nothing else. Here’s where that weird caffeine thing comes in. When you have a migraine, the blood vessels behind your eyes contract, adding caffeine, namely Coke, open the blood vessels up to relieve that awful pressure.
I get optical migraines as a precursor to my full blown migraines. In a way, they are helpful because I know to get my advil and my coke and I can sometimes beat it!! An optical migraine is usually induced by lights. Being a teacher, my lights stink and are flourescent. (Places like Walmart asnd KMart have awful lights that always bug me) When you get an optical, in one eye, it’ll start to blur and almost look like a clear colored kleidescope. For me, I see that in the opposite eye that I end of getting my migraine pain. My mom gets it in the same eye as the migraine pain. Weird…But that tells me that I’m gonna get one asap! Last Tues I got the optical and didn’t have Coke so I took my advil and ended up getting one. Only lasted 2 hours, so it could have been worse! I’m not a Coke drinker, but it’s always good to keep a can or two in the fridge!
Excedrin Migraine works inconsistently for me and I was given a prescription for my migraines but I’m too afraid to take it! I hate pills and Advil is as strong as I get!
My fiance Mike has NEVER had a migraine, but has seen me thru plenty. Now we bought a condo and he must have caught my migraines!! He’s has 2 in 3 weeks. BUT we looked at the day before both and he had turkey meat, cheese, d. soda (artificial sweetner) and chocolate. Interesting…
So that’s my long winded info on migraines! Since I learned all of this stuff, I’ve gone from 1 per month to maybe 1 every 3 or 4 months so I am sticking too it!!
Enjoy your day off, wish I was!
When I saw your subject line “Migraine”, I though, say no more girl! I’ve suffered from migraine’s since high school. I’ve been given a prescription for them several times but never turned it in (very expensive!!). If I can’t catch it early through the warning signs – foggy, heavy head, grumpiness, etc. – then I try drinking some caffeine first. If that doesn’t work, my go-to medicine is excedrin Migraine. One of the worst migraines I ever had was on vacation at Disney World. There’s no such thing as the happiest place on Earth when you have a migraine! I’m so glad your nap helped!
